How to Learn Swedish?

How to Learn Swedish?

Having a plan and to know what is your goal is the half way to success. Today I will write an alternative study plan to learn and master Swedish.

First of all let's see some dictionaries that can guide us. They are both multilingual and have sample sentences.
http://lexin2.nada.kth.se
http://www.sanakirja.org

1) Basic Phrases
This is the first step when you start to learn Swedish. Just like you say Hi! to someone when you first meet, you say Hi! to Swedish, too. And even if you are a beginner, to show that you are learning Swedish, you can start to interact with the natives asking how they are or where they live.

Hej! - Hello!
Adjö! - Bye!
Hur mår du? - How are you?
Jag mår bra - I am doing well
Var bor du? - Where do you live?
Jag bor i Sverige - I live in Sweden
Tack! - Thank you!
Varsågod - Your welcome
Hur gammal är du? - How old are you?

You can read a list of basic sentences in this article.. And if you want to read more; you can visit

learn101.com
omniglot.com
mylanguages.org
internetpolyglot.com

2) Introduce Yourself
After you ask if people are doing well, a self-introduction and getting to know each other come so you can keep talking.
So we need some phrases like, where we live, what do we do for living, how old you are and so on.

You can read the same article that I mentioned in the previous step or;
Jag heter ...
Jag är student
Jag bor i ....
Jag är .... gammal
Jag lär mig svenska
Vad heter du?
Hur gammal är du?
Arbetar du?
Jag talar engelska ja lite grann svenska.
Jag kommer från Frankrike.
Var ifrån kommer du?
Pratar du engelska?

So you can talk to people you just meet and start to practice instantly!

! What to do next?
Now it is time to learn some grammar. The most regular verb form is present tense so we should start with that one then.

3) Present Tense
Good news, there is no present continuous.
You can write down some verbs in your native language that you think that they will be necessary in daily talk. And then you can open lexin or sanakirja dictionary and write them in a notebook. I would recommend you a real notebook, so you can bring it anywehere with you and repeat the words you just learned.
When you learn the verbs, you can directly write them in all tenses in your notebook, including the imperatice form. If you use lexin dictionary, you need to download the audio files to listen. So I have another recommendation for you
www.forvo.com
You can just click and listen. But the good thing with the other two dictionaries is that you may see sample sentences and all conjugations (in all tenses).

!Now we started to build some vocabulary. So why not to visit www.internetpolyglot.com, choose a topic and learn some adjectives, adverbs or time words? Numbers are also so useful, especially if you will visit Sweden, that knowledge can help you when you do shopping.

4) Simple Tense
The nice thing with the Swedish Grammar is that you conjugate the verb the same way for all personal pronouns. But if you do not have much time and can not write down the verbs in all tenses as soon as you learn, then past simple tense should be the second option so you can tell people where you lived, what jobs you had or just what you did today, right?

Now I strongly recommend you to learn time adverbials and telling time phrases on internetpolyglot or just visit quizlet.com or memrise.com but be careful, flashcards do not always have nice pronunciation records. It is better if you keep listening to them on forvo.com, too.

5) Some basic vocabulary and phrases
We talked about enriching our vocabulary but in which order exactly? This is what I recommend.
a) Numbers
b) Time Words
c) Telling Time
d) Colors

This is a simple step that can be found resources easier than your next step.

6) Now is the confusing part
But it is the funniest, too!
Because it is time to understand and enjoy your knowledge and build even more vocabulary!
But How?
That's simple,
Read, read and read! And if you can listen at the same time, that's the best.
What to read?
You can look for the newspapers;
8sidor.se news in simple Swedish with audio
sverigesradio.se has also similar news with audio and children radio, too
You can also utilize lingq.com where you can find lots of texts with audio attached. You can download to your computer or mobile phone, too!
And you can use lingro.com as dictionary when reading. They have Swedish- English and Swedish - Polish "clickable" dictionary. You write the link that you want to read and you just click the words you want to translate. It also saves your history if you sign up and it is completely free.

7) Switch the language of your e-mail, Facebook or any possible Webpage you use to Swedish
Don't think that "det spelar ingen roll" ! Cause it really does. Probably you know the menu names and places already! And now you will have extra vocabulary!

8) Find Swedish songs with translations that sound nice to you. Read the lyrics in both languages, learn new words. And then what comes? As you listen to a song more, all those new words will be yours! (lyricstranslate.com)

9) Some other resources , TV & Grammar Guide
Swedish TV svtplay.se
Swedish TV shows with Swedish Subtitles urplay.se
lardigsvenska.com Swedish Grammar but only in Swedish
svgrammatik-fr.blogspot.se A personal blog; perfect grammar and vocabulary guide, translations are in both French and English.

*Write down any new word you learn, if possible with at least sample sentence. Better with a real notebook so you can carry anywhere and repeat them. Also you can use wallwisher.com if you use a notebook computer.
*And if possible get a tutor. And you can learn more systematic and faster.
*At any stage, always practice speaking with voice or text chat.
